In Xiushui County, a local company has built a benchmark for green transport in western Jiangxi’s mountainous region, enabled by Yutong’s 400 kWh electric tractor (battery under chassis).

How Yutong Heavy Trucks Tackle Mountainous Conditions?

Yutong, a Trusted Choice

Amid intensified competition in the silica mining sector, the company pivoted to aggregates transport and established its own fleet. With a one-way distance of around 30 km, the route is well-suited to electrification, but steep gradients and winding roads place high demands on motor torque and energy management. After benchmarking multiple brands, the company selected Yutong’s 400 kWh tractor, prioritizing vehicle stability and driver safety in demanding terrain.

Engineered for Mountain Roads

The route consists of 15 km of flat roads and 15 km of steep, winding climbs, operated with a “loaded uphill, empty downhill” cycle. Yutong’s battery-under-chassis design enhances stability and visibility, while the 330 kW motor delivers consistent power on inclines. On downhill return trips, the eddy current retarder recovers up to 10% of energy. Over three trips, the recovered energy is equivalent to the consumption of one full round trip.

With depot charging in place and off-peak electricity at RMB 0.8/kWh, the operation saves close to RMB 2/km versus outsourced diesel trucks. For a four-unit fleet, that translates to nearly RMB 50,000 in monthly savings, around RMB 600,000 per year. Combined with simplified maintenance and responsive after-sales support, Yutong’s solution delivers both operational reliability and cost control. The fleet operator plans to expand with additional Yutong vehicles, further scaling an efficient and low-carbon logistics model. Yutong will continue to upgrade its products and technologies, helping operators achieve both economic gains and environmental progress even in the most challenging terrains.
