Yutong’s TE5 light truck has completed a high-altitude drive along China’s demanding National Highway 318 (average altitude>3,500m), successfully navigating the notorious Nujiang 72 Turns and reaching Everest Base Camp at 5,200m. This marks the first stop of Yutong’s 2025 Extreme Real World Operation Challenge, moving beyond conventional test track evaluations to validate performance on actual user routes, embodying its customer-first philosophy.

Yutong has consistently pushed boundaries in extreme conditions, setting driving range records in both 70°C heat and -30°C cold. Stretching over 2,700 km, the Highway 318 features complex conditions from sharp bends to drastic elevation changes that reflect the real-world challenges faced by light truck operators.

The TE5, driven by actual users and carrying a 2.5-ton load, recorded an energy consumption of just 37.77 kWh per 100 km. It completed a journey (>500 km) from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp on a single charge, making it the industry’s first battery electric light truck to achieve this feat.

The vehicle’s performance stems from Yutong’s user-focused engineering and innovations: a high-power motor enables a 38% gradeability; variable-stiffness chrome-vanadium steel springs and high-strength 6.0T rear axles increases load capacity by 20%; specialized mountain tires enhance carrying capacity by 50%, reducing blowout risks on rough terrain; and an advanced thermal management system supports efficient charging even at temperatures as low as -25°C.

By conquering one of the world’s most extreme driving environments, the Yutong TE5 demonstrates Yutong’s performance-driven, user-focused design logic and sets a new benchmark for battery electric light trucks.
